*"Little Kisses", Part One

Here's yet another personal project on which I'm currently working.  (The title is pretty much self-explanatory, right?)  It's a whole lot of warm and fuzzy.  In this case, Daddy's rubbing noses with his son.  Lots of awwws and ohhhhs in the studio that day.

Frankfurt 2

Here is the second image from Frankfurt. When I did scouting, this building quickly got my attention. It's the Deutsche Bahn building. It was the tallest building in Germany from 1978 to 1991, also called Silver Tower. I love its aluminium facade and the rounded corners.

Song Of The Sea || Dubrovnik

The beautiful and timeless fortress city of Dubrovnik; the pearl of the Adriatic Sea.

One of the main attractions of Dubrovnik are the walls themselves. For a small fee, you can walk all the way around the old city, seeing amazing views along the way. Every time I was up there, I saw people filming in various locations around the city. I figured that it was just some small student film or something similar. A few months later I found out that HBO was filming season 2 of The Game of Thrones inside the city. I guess that explains why so many people were walking around in medieval costumes. ;)

Technical Mumbo Jumbo

Camera: Nikon D700
Lens: 24-70 f/2.8
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/350 at f/4.8

First off, this photo was processed from a single RAW file. It’s also important to note that while I typically shoot 3-5 exposure brackets, I don’t always use them. ;)

After distortion correction and chromatic aberration removal in Lightroom 4, I did some color and contrast correction in Photoshop. Since I shot during Golden Hour, the light already had a natural warmth to it and the sky had a nice natural orange. I just enhanced the saturation where necessary.

The moon —since it was distorted by the wide angle— was shot separately and added back in 80% larger. It was placed exactly over top.

Photography - Sometimes a Dangerous Passion

Photography can be a very dangerous passion as you can see. But since every good photographer wants to create his personal unique masterpiece, risky steps are sometimes necessary. I think this makes the difference between good photographers and amazing photographers.

So here is my full July Scavenger Hunt Album.  +Chrysta Rae runs this event every other month here on Google+

She gives us 10 words.  We take 10 pictures.  July's words were:

Tree
Motion
Rust
Lines
Model
Blue
Breakfast
Kiss
Puppy
Reflection

While the Hunt is judged, I really don't think that's the idea behind it.  Having experienced it this first time I've come away with the feeling that it's about camaraderie.  Friendship.  Earnest love of Photography and most importantly, fun!

Self-critique of my own work, compared to what the judges seemed to like - I would say that this set is too quiet and too safe. Way way too safe.  I can clearly see it.  I feel no remorse for any of my shots.  It was my first hunt, after all, and I got two Honourable Mentions!  I consider that a resounding success.

At the end of the day, one has to recognize the growth they made themselves as a creative individual and photographer.  I certainly grew a lot and what's more important is that I made new friends and found some wonderful photographers to share this passion with.

I'd like to personally thank the judges this round, who took so much time out of their lives to look through these monstrously huge albums and make these difficult choices.  +Alan Shapiro +Nicole S. Young +Brian Matiash and +Sam Breach Wonderful job!

+Joseph Fanvu You're still my bro for the only other Scavenger who flipped off the camera for Blue :D

Thanks finally to +Chrysta Rae for being the most fun organizer ever!  Excellent job - and I feel like I've met a kindred spirit.  Thanks for doing this, all your hard work and effort really pays off in a great pageant of excellence here and I for one had a magnificent time!

See you all in VEGAS!!!!!!

Trinity

Two weeks back, my wife and I were on a road trip to Utah and Arizona. We stopped at Arches, Monument Valley, and Antelope Canyons. I took a few very cliched, every-photographer-must-have-one type shots while we were on the trip, and it was awesome!

This is a panorama of Monument Valley. For this shot, I took 18 individual portrait oriented shots of 21 MP each with 30-50% overlap and spanning 2 rows and 9 columns. The final panorama is a super high-definition (at least by my standards) 18009 x 5110 92 MP monster that is definitely going up on my wall!

I hope you guys like it! Enjoy!

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
