Things alter for the worse spontaneously, if they be not altered for the better designedly.~ F. Bacon

Real life sometimes takes unexpected turns, one reaches the end of the jetty and then what ?

This is an old photo that I already shared a while ago. I've been away from the online world a lot recently and I don't see things getting better , so I don't know when or if I'll be back.

Stay well and have fun in whatever you do :-)

"Mad Season" - Toroweap, Grand Canyon National Park.

Maybe I'm a little bit crazy? Scramble to the edge of one of earth's highest vertical drops (~1000 meters) and hope for a good storm? That's exactly what I did on this particular evening at Toroweap. Toroweap, a Paiute (Native American) term meaning dry or barren valley, was anything but dry shortly after this photo was taken.  My best estimation of the strike in this shot was that is was about 10 kilometers away.  And it was after seeing this lightning strike on the LCD of my camera that I decided I got what I came for and it was time to seek immediate shelter.  This storm came in like a freight train as sunset approached, bringing with it high winds, heavy rain, hail, and more lightning than I'd seen in any storm.  There was little warning as to its speed.  Good thing we'd (+Robert Beideman  and myself) taken the car to the lookout from the campground rather than hiking the 1 mile (we were still recovering from The Subway - Zion National Park hike the previous day); otherwise we'd have been without shelter.

Upon returning to the campsite it was another 30 minutes before it was safe to exit the car. Once we did, we found our tent to be soaked on the inside - luckily, we hadn't unloaded any of our things into the tent before leaving for the shoot.  Unfortunately, others in the campsite had all of their bedding soaked as the entire area turned into a river.  Everyone spent the night in their vehicles...

When we'd first arrived at the overlook, we'd seen two other photographers heading out in a westerly direction and unfortunately hadn't seen them back at their vehicle when we departed for the campground right as the storm hit.  When we arrived the following morning we were very relieved to see these two (apparently unharmed) emerging from their vehicle.  Turns out we know these photographers in todays online kind of way, from G+ of course. They were +Ron Coscorrosa  and +Sarah Marino. Glad to have met them... in person!

Rudbjerg Knude Lighthouse. This lighthouse is no longer in function, as it has been invaded by a migrating dune.

It was storming on that day, being on the dune itself felt like being in a dessert during a sandstorm, making it impossible to take out the camera. This left me with the only one option, to shoot the light house from the distance, not what I had envisioned before going there.

I can see myself now, that i properly got a much better picture, from a not so common perspective, in perfect light and with really nice weather features.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
