~Lemolo~

"Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." -Lao Tsu

Lemolo Falls the tallest and most powerful waterfall along the North Umpqua River. This monster falls drops 165 feet over a basalt cliff wall into a large pool and is a true beauty to stand in front of. The only downside to this location was the incredible amount of mosquitoes that were relentless on the hike in.

Happy waterfall Wednesday!

~ Smooth ~
Good morning! Can't believe it's #waterfallwednesday  again thanks to +Eric Leslie. I've been gone for an extended weekend shooting more waterfalls and having some family fun. But this image is from my trip from the Gorge a couple of weekends ago shot from Eagle Creek. I really didn't think I had any photos from the bottom that would be good because the light changed and the sun really came out all over the falls. I wasn't too concerned as I had a photo from last year I was happy with. Have a great day!

"African Tank"
Black Rhinoceros
Location Undisclosed

Sticking with monochrome visions of wildlife, as this week's Wildlife Wednesday ( #WildlifeWednesday curated by myself and +Mike Spinak) is in its last throes and we make way for Threatened Thursday I felt it necessary to shed light again on the current Rhino poaching crisis in Southern Africa.

The Black Rhino is the least populous of Southern Africa's rhinos and it listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List of species (http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/6557/0). It was awesome finding this bull on a grassy plain as they normally prefer thick woodlands and shrubs since they are by nature browsers. I feel the monochrome presentation here evokes a feeling of days gone by, a longing for a view of an animal in times where man has been kinder to it.

The total number of rhinos killed illegally in 2012 to support the black market rhino horn trade in South Africa as of 17 July 2012 is 281, with the totall loss since 2010 standing at 1062. What an actrocious situation!

RHINO HORN IS NOT MEDICINE! IT DOES NOT CURE ANY DISEASE AND IT DOES NOT IMPROVE VIRILITY OR BOOST LIBIDO! YOU CAN JUST AS WELL SNUFF SOME GROUND UP HUMAN FINGERNAILS OR HUMAN HAIR - IT'S THE SAME STUFF: KERATIN.

Good morning G+ People ;)

Just a quick post before we hit the road - the plan is to visit Holy Island and then Bamburgh Castle.  Not sure how much shooting I'll be able to do before getting shouted at by other members of the family - but perhaps a few snapshots ;)

This is another waterfall above Thirlmere Reservoir, Lake District.

Among the menagerie of research insects at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign are Odontomachus rixosus trap-jaw ants from Cambodia, used for studies on the biomechanics of ant mandibles. Here, one threatens to kill me.

A Good Day A Bad Day A Sad Day Or What

insecure about her knees
and what the rest of the world sees
about her feet, her back and thighs
embarrassed to be in front of noticing eyes
is it a good day a bad day a sad day or what
she wants to know how the jeans fit her butt
screw it, she says, and decides instead
to go back to bed and cover her head

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
