I am missing night light just now, trapped in the monsoon of SW China... But, I am off to Iceland at the end of August for 6 weeks to work on the next series of Night Images....

Wonderland Dusk

Seaside on a foggy afternoon a few days ago. Had a nice time shooting there with the waves rolling over my feet- looks really calm here, but it was actually quite dynamic and wavey. For the +Olivier Du Tré  #minimalmonday  extravaganza. And for those of you who may have missed it- check out this impossible customer service conundrum I had to deal with the other day here: http://nateparkerphotography.com/blog/2012/7/prices-like-the-limbo-stick-how-low-will-you-go. Right then, have a great week my friends, -Nate from Maine.

The Snake & the Zebra

An image combining two of my loves; The sea and rocks.  The white of the surf snaking into the distance under a great textural cliff of Jurassic rocks caught my eye on a very, very wet day a few weeks back.

Do Experiment, Don't Fear
I know I find myself in ruts from time to time where I'm too chicken to experiment with new things photographically. Case in point, I haven't done much long exposure work at night. I shoot a d90 which isn't super clean at high ISOs, so I just never gave it much thought.

This night at Trout Lake north of Mt. Shasta on the #shastaplus2012  photowalk. +Owen Richardson and I were here at the lake the night before the sunrise when the rest of the group was going to arrive. Just hanging out we got out our cameras and did some shooting while were talking gear or whatever :) This is a smallish pano that I created out of necessity because it was dark and I couldn't properly frame my scene. I one shot cut off Shasta and the other cut off Black Butte there on the right. But each frame was almost 11 minutes total. Shot at f/4, ISO200 and bulb mode (triggered wirelessly so I didn't have hold the shutter open). There were some hot pixels that showed up here and there that I cloned out. I could have used the in-camera LE noise correction, but it didn't cross my mind. Anywho...this was another one of those happy experiments.

Time to get all waspy for #MacroMonday !

The first week of our travels through Paraná, Brazil, were exceptionally rainy. When I happened across a nest of Synoeca cyanea during a lull in the weather, the workers were busy expelling excess water from their home.

A larger shot of the nest is here: http://www.alexanderwild.com/Insects/Bees-Wasps-and-Sawflies/4230200_rM6tm2#!i=1922919390&k=5pS9H3L

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
