Savannah Elaphants of Queen Elizabeth...

Queen Elizabeth National Reserve in Uganda is a huge place that is filled with all types of wildlife including the African Bush Elephant. African bush elephants are the largest living land mammals and the second tallest after the giraffe. The biggest ever recorded was a bull that weighed 10 tonnes and stood 4m at the shoulder. The large ears, formidable tusks and strong trunk all add to their physically striking appearance.

African elephants have remarkably complex and interesting social lives. Their society is guided by the oldest female called a matriarch. She determines when they eat, rest, bathe and drink. They feed on grass, tree foliage, bark, twigs, herbs, shrubs, roots, and fruit. Altogether, elephants consume more than 225 kilograms (500 pounds) of vegetation a day, spending hours eating it. Due to their large size, African Bush Elephants must drink water daily.

"Breakfast in the morning sun".

Willet With a sand crab
(Tringa semipalmata)
Morro Bay, CA. April, 2012

Getting up early has its rewards, what makes it even better is when you get that sweet golden lights. Being out on the seashore gives you ample opportunity to get all kinds of bird shots and even some nice seascapes and abstracts of the breaking waves.

Morro Bay is a great place to visit if you love shore birds, it is a picturesque seaside village located along scenic Highway 1 halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Unlike the Curlews and the Godwits, Willets are not found in flocks. On this particular morning I found this fellow all by himself and not bothered by my presence.  I had the opportunity to make some images of it feeding. Here, he has found early breakfast in form of a sand crab.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
