Just finished a personal piece from this morning's photo walk around Fremantle.

The textures were all captured this morning as well, so if you saw me this morning taking photos of walls and the ground.. this is what I was preparing for!

In a place where undulating hills meet verdant green fields and where azure blue skies meet some beautiful light and peppered clouds, it would be rather depressing to have a dull lifeless colorless palette enveloping the entire scene.

And I was rather depressed. After driving through endless fields for a whole day with the sun shirking away from its duties, I was more than ready to call it quits, head to a theatre and sulk away watching a movie.

But as I was driving away from this form, the sun finally broke through, lighting up just the structure alone. And with the thunderstorm in the clouds sending a sheet of rain down forming the perfect canvas, the entire scene transpired to form a rather dramatic image.

Using a telephoto lens to form a tight crop of the landscape while keeping the horizon low and the using the rich sky for the maximum effect required a lot of effort with the ever-changing light. But after waiting for a few minutes, I managed to capture this scene at ISO 800, 1/400s at F11

Forest Light

Sometimes you come across a wonderful picture and feel like: WOW! I want to edit that one! Like in this case... A wonderful picture by Push Ya, right from the start, but I wanted to give it my touch. Here's the result! Thx Push! (Unfortunately Push is not on Google+ yet...)

What did I do?

I started by cropping the picture and denoising it a bit. Then I added some green and cyan color (using my Kodak E100S simulation) before I pushed the contrast quite a lot. After that I added layers with radial, gaussian and motion blur to get the effects you see in the picture. A bit of sharpening on top of that and I was done.

My final image from my Holiday to the South Carolina coast - began it with a sunrise, ended with a sunset :)

The clouds don't always comply on the day you set out to take a sunset.  Most of the nights there were completely bare - at least there was a little on this last night we were there.

Except that first night, when I only had my iPhone!  Gah! :D

Thanks everyone for all the awesome comments and +1s on this series/story of  Photos that I've shared so far <3

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
