Fairies breath

And as the seasons come and go, here's something you might like to know.  There are fairies everywhere:  under bushes, in the air,
playing games just like you play, singing through their busy day.
So listen, touch, and look around - in the air and on the ground.
And if you watch all nature's things, you might just see a fairy's wing.

Twilight Storm Under Starry Sky
I originally shot this sunset to twilight storm to produce this timelapse video I've uploaded to +YouTube: http://youtu.be/I8OEEhKlKzE?hd=1

I revisted the images this morning to produce a star trails shot as well.  I like how the last orange light from the setting sun appears under the emerging stars.

I've posted tutorials on both timelapse sequences and star trails images over on my +Blogger blog... just search to find the one you want: http://www.myphotoguides.com/

"Family of Spots"
Cheetah mom and cubs
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa

Thursday is always special for me on G+ since it means that it's time for Threatened Thursday again, a photo theme where we can highlight the plight of the world's fauna and flora which is for the most part caused by human encroachment and development.

The cheetah is listed as vulnerable, population decreasing on the IUCN Red List of Species (http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/219/0). This graceful athletic species is constantly under threat from man as well as larger predators who love picking on them.

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa is one of the best places in the world to observe and photograph this wonderful species, and on a good day you can have multiple sightings included hunting attempts. See more info at:

"Notch" Need I say more?!
Masai Mara, Kenya

Less than 2000 lions remain in Kenya. Their numbers continue to plummet due to pressures from the increase in human population, loss of habitat due to human encroachment, ever-increasing herds of livestock and livestock grazing and also loss of prey. Laws don't seem to be protecting them. If something isn't done soon, Kenya's lions could become extinct within 5-10 years.

I pulled out a htech filter I have not used in a while, and the result was an interesting colour-cast effect.   So what you see here was not by any photoshop filter effect, it was something from the ND grad + ND filter.   But, I think I still like it, what do you think?

You'd think an ant might use her stinger to sting. But some practice a different form of defense: they use the device merely as a support for waving about a volatile droplet of venom. This Brazilian Solenopsis (a small fire ant) exudes venom in response to my disturbing her nest.

I've uploaded a second photograph here: http://www.alexanderwild.com/Ants/Taxonomic-List-of-Ant-Genera/Solenopsis/8745741_jQjPNj#!i=1909736227&k=XX8mxGF

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
