Just finally sent this one out for print....it took a while for me to be happy with it....let me know what you think!

Sorry for the long absence. I moved into an old (in US terms) farmhouse that was originally built in 1740...and, well....I've been busy getting it up to a livable state!

Thank you for looking...and for staying with me here on G+. I've got a few excursions lined up in the near future that should produce some great new images. Stay tuned!

Kicking it up a notch for today's #MacroMonday submission, curated by +Kelli Seeger Kim, +Jennifer Eden and +Kerry Murphy! Keeping with the Dandelion theme and how beautiful the common things can be, here is a water droplet refraction image.

The tiny droplets are suspended on the fine hairs of a Dandelion seed. The water droplets act like tiny lenses, refracting an image of the flower I placed behind them.

This is a focus-stacked image and created entirely hand-held. :)

Silverton Sunset...

I almost wrecked my rental Jeep to get this shot. I got set up for the shot that I wanted and waited for a few minutes to see if the light was going to cooperate. As I waited, I started to see this amazing light emanating from just over the pass. Now I had turned around while I was scouting for a workable composition because the back road I was on was still half covered with snow, but when I saw this light, I had to see what it looked like from on top of the mountain. I jump in Jeep Compass that I rented and started racing up this thin mountain pass road that is covered in snow, drifting through the corners and nearly going off the side. I only had minutes to get to the top before this light was gone, so I knew I had to go quick. Once I make it to the top, the road was closed and I had to run about 100 yards through wast deep melting snow. I nearly passed out from exhaustion as I composed the shot and pressed the shutter. It was totally worth it!!! :)

Tension Is Only Surface Deep
This month will be a fun one for macros as my local photo club's assignment is the same subject. A rainy day yesterday meant I got to play inside with the macro lens and softbox.
I invite you to click the image and view it larger, there are a lot of details that can't be seen in the stream size version.

Under The Moonlight

It's late night... The sun has set and only the pale white light of the moon reflects in the calm waters of the lake... The bird is singing his serenade for his mate to be... I wonder if he found a partner before the night was over...

The Mighty Crater Lake

For #MountainMonday I bring you Crater Lake bathed in white. I was there for one sunset and one sunrise and it was completely socked in with clouds both times, so I stuck around through mid-morning when the clouds broke. It's easy to get discouraged and leave, but even a sky like this is really pleasant.

Thanks +Michael Russell for curating :) If you'd like a bigger file to use as a wall paper, check this out http://ericleslie.com/image/Crater-Lake-(Still-Small-Voice)

Mang Pepe

I have been in Binondo Church several times, and each time I visit, I see different characters and hear different tales.

Mang Pepe who suffered a stroke few years ago paralyzed his right part of the body. Unable to speak very well but happily obliged to have his photo taken.

"Leaving Emerald Bay"
Lake Tahoe, CA - 2009

Growing up in California, I was very fortunate to have a family house in Tahoe. As a child I remember building forts in the woods behind our house and jumping in the beautiful yet chilly water that makes up Lake Tahoe. As a photographer, this area of California is amazing. One of my favorite locations is Emerald Bay, located near the south end of the lake. While extremely popular for visitors and photographers alike, there are still plenty of opportunities for unique compositions if you look hard enough. While I usually prefer dramatic skies, the clean feel of this image is what I enjoy the most.

Image Information:
CAMERA: Canon 5D Mark II
LENS: Canon 24-70 2.8L
ISO: 200
EXPOSURE: f / 9.0 at 1/125 Sec

Post Processing:
I balanced the light reflecting off the water with the sky by using Lightroom's local adjustments (brush) as well as the split toning feature. I cleaned up a few ripples in the lake via content aware in Photoshop and then slightly enhanced the color of the image using +Nik Software's Viveza 2.

*A higher resolution version will be available once my new Portfolio and Online Store sections of my website are finished. #cbblog

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
