Aspropyrgos photowalk, Greece

Yesterday it was a special day for me, as I did the first joined photoshooting with my good G+ friends +Aleka Iakovidou +helen sotiriadis and +Julia Anna Gospodarou (that's just alphabetical order girls ;-)

I drove them as I had promised to my fave decaying jetty in Aspropyrgos, Greece and though we didn't stay for long we sure had a blast!

I set the tripod, filters, blah, blah... and started shooting the sunset and the rolling clouds, but in the meantime I was more interested in shooting the girls @ work with my other camera, so I got carried away with the girls (who wouldn't...) and ended with just a couple of keepers from the jetty, all shot from the same spot.

Helen has already posted a great shot from yesterday here:

I'll post links to the other girl's photos when they'll post them. I'm sure they have some stunners too, as I saw them in their back screens. I'm waiting...

Needless to mention that the most fun we had, was taking photos of each other, so (as Arnie says) "I'll be back..."

In the meantime here's one of my artsy-fartsy ones...

One from my archives. I took this image several years ago in eastern Oregon. In late winter the willow and dogwood brush in the wetlands turns bright red and orange. Sunrise light was filtering through mist rising from an overnight dusting of snow so everything was glowing. The use of a polarizer helped bring out the color of the wet branches. I returned to this place a year ago to find that winds had knocked down several of the trees and heavy snow pack had flattened the brush.

I have shot this particular building (Bridge Bank in San Jose, CA) before: http://goo.gl/vyKHH Although I like this earlier version I have always envisioned something different. Finally last weekend I had time and the clouds were right (sadly this doesn't happen often in the Bay Area). Besides the usual 10 stop ND filter I also used a CP filter to get the glass front surface just as I wanted it. In fact most of my LE photos have been made with a CP filter added. Besides the extra 2 stops it allows me to play with the degree of reflections.

Brighton Marina - This is the sea defences around Brighton Marina. I was restricted to shooting from the very end of the defences as the tide was high, which limited the compositions I was able to do.
41 seconds, F16, ISO 100, B&W ND110.
This post is dedicated to +Edwin Song, who if I've counted correctly, was the 40,000th person to add me to their circles. (Edwin, if you like any of my pictures, feel free to pick one from my website and I'll send you a freebie print - send me a mail) Thanks Edwin, and thank you everyone else for your continued support!

Today has been deemed Desert Day.
Today was the day I sat down and decided to process all my images from the desert sand dunes of Death Valley National Parks.
After one hour, I had barely had one pass to remove the unwanted ones (work email, the Daily Show and checking out other photos provided the necessary distractions)
After the 2nd hour, I was working on the individual images, tweaking settings so that it looked just right
After the third hour, my brain had fried, but I had managed to pick out the images I needed out from a pile of over 200 photos, rate them, process themm, tag them and then select out the better ones destined for print or flickr uploads.

At that point, I could not handle any more of it. So I just walked away from the computer.

Processing images has been quite a chore. I have a backlog of about 3000 images waiting to get filtered, sorted, rated, processed and keyworded. And every trip I make adds 300 to 500 more images to that seemingly never-ending pile.

Atleast with Lightroom, I have a way of keeping track of what needs to be processed.

Anyways, after seeing images of a dry desert hour after hour, I decided to look into my Yellowstone folder for shots of the mist rising of the Yellowstone River in Lamar Valley on a cool summer morning. and that resulted in this.

This was shot with a telephoto lens at ISO 200, F11 and 1/100s with an underexposure of -0.7EV

Really... what can I say?
It doesn't get much better than having the opportunity to photograph Greg.

Greg is a truly gifted artist and musician, not to mention rock climber and motorcycle lover.
A genuinely intense guy with the most character I'll probably ever see in from of my camera.

Taken during the Don Giannatti Workshop held at my studio last weekend.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
