Leopard Lookout
Chobe National Park, Botswana

This image almost didn't happen. Several vehicles were tracking this leopard through Chobe, and when it appeared that he would finally cross the road, it seemed like every Land Rover in the park converged on this one spot. We were near the edge of the traffic jam, so I figured the photo op was gone...he'd cross the road nowhere near us and disappear into the bush. Yes, he did cross the road, but I was never so happy to be wrong. Instead of disappearing into the bush, he climbed into this tree by the side of the road, probably not more than 35 feet from where I was. By the time we left, he showed no signs of getting ready to leave.

The exposure was a bit tricky, and I didn't like how the sky appeared in the original image, so I dropped in a dark background that gives it an extra pop.

Here is a shot from a beautiful morning in September 2010. The mist was just perfect and as the sun was raising, it created this wonderful scene...

I have re-processed this image especially for #WideWednesdayPanorama curated by +Charles Lupica and +Jason Dell. When I finished it I was actually pretty happy with it so many more of these coming from me soon.

Dark Morning

This was a shot taken around this time last year in Lyme Regis. We'd been planning a trip back there this weekend and off in to North Devon. My wife was going to a smoking a curing course at River Cottage - but last night River Cottage burnt down, which means (well I'm guessing) that her course is going to be postponed and therefore a trip cancelled :(

I'd never been to Lyme Regis before but I'd seen many shots of the Cob - one in particular stuck in my mind and that was of Adam Clutterbuck's shot of a wave breaking over the Cobb - its a great shot shows so much drama but still with great beauty - you can see it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamclutterbuck/2299120466/ but do explore his 75 pages of great images.

Anyway Lyme Regis wasn't at all what I was expecting - I got to the Cobb and it was so foggy I couldn't see from one end to the other, nor could I see the drop either side !!! I had a great time though and really can't wait to go back - but would love to go back when its stormy - question is a slippery harbour wall that sloped precariously towards the sea would I be brave enough !!

This is a 60 second shot f13 @ 18mm. Different processing but I liked the light on the chains against the dark murk below

Thought I would start to share some older images here on Google+, this is probably one of my personal favourites.

Part of the reason for sharing as well, is because I was recently interviewed by a Danish on-line photography magazine and it has just been published on their site:

Interview: http://www.fotograf-fotograf.dk/photographer-noel-clegg

No pressure to read it, but there's a few familiar names mentioned in there.

Lake Tahoe Sunrise This Morning
Well, the moon set behinds some clouds before the sunrise color arrived, but it's good that I went up there looking for the moon, because the clouds turned out really well.

Here's what I caught of the moon before it disappeared: https://picasaweb.google.com/107459220492917008623/Winter201112#5706889744915575954

This is from the same night as my last photo. While we were all staring at the show on the waterfall +Jeremy Cram turned around and spotted the awesome sky in the other direction. So I switched to the 100-400mm lens and caught this through the mist. So thanks again Jeremy!

Here is today's installment from my Wild Lands & Wild Life: Alaskan Fine Art Prints catalog.

Today's entry is from the 'Wild Lands' chapter in the catalog.

The Six Mile Creek area offers beautiful photographic settings year round. In the winter, the river freezes almost entirely. With odd rolling and undulating ice forms, you can find small gaps to look through and under, at the still flowing water beneath.
In the Spring and Summer, this area comes alive. The fresh snow melt raises the water level dramatically, and class 5 rapids roar through the canyons. Higher above, on some lesser known trails, I've found large sections of wildflowers and lots of fresh bear scat (although, oddly enough, I've never seen a bear here).
In the fall (when this was taken), the aspen shift the landscape into a painters palette, dotting the canyon floor and mountain sides with splotches of gold amongst the green of Sitka Spruce. The cool blue waters offer a nice contrast to the warmth of the trees.
In this image, I used my 24mm lens to get as much of the river in the frame as possible, using it (the river) to lead your eyes through the frame. This was taken in the early evening, but already the sun was hidden behind mountains and diffused by a beautiful mid-layer fog.
The lighting and aperture (f16) I used (along with an ISO of 100), allowed me to get a long enough exposure (2.5") to blur the water along it's path.
I hope you enjoy:)

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
