Do you wonder what the TOP photos published by Google+ photography enthusiasts on February 7 were?

Here is a collection of winter images in case it is too warm where you live. :) I realized in looking at these that I really need to go back and re-edit my entire first two years worth of images. Enjoy.

I've been asked a few times... "Dave, what do you guys call the work you do? is it Photography? Digital Art?"

The stuff we do is probably most closely identified with Photography. Though when we post the work to photography forums we get a lot of "That's not photography, it's digital art!" comments.

On the flip side, when we post to digital art forums we get "That's not digital art, it's Photography!"

So screw it. I think we need to come up with a new term for it... how does this hit you?

cape gannets week #1

I'm kicking off new theme week with this image which is probably one of my most famous. It won second prize in underwater category in Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2009, gaining exposure to several million people visiting exhibition around the world and appeared in numerous publications and campaigns after that, including famous Mozilla Seabird phone conceptual video - Mozilla Seabird 2D

Obviously seeing bird which belongs to the air element in the water surrounded by sun rays and scales and bubbles - key to the success of this picture. It strikes powerfully with it's surrealistic appearance, and many people told me that they could not understand initially that this picture was taken underwater.

Well, gannets became my favorite subject of Sardine Run, and I have big plans for them for the new season as well. I believe perfect picture is yet to be made !

I'm sharing this one for +Brian White's #TodayTuesday . A long exposure of St. Catherine's Breakwater from earlier this evening. The brightly lit sea comes courtesy of tonight's full moon ;)

Here is a repost for #textureblendphotograpy and #textureblendtuesday .

Morning dew on a foxtail. This is very similar to the photo I loaded last week because I took both shots on the same morning. Hopefully that isn't considered cheating.
Like last week's grass shot, this one loses the detail in the stream size image, you've got to view it larger to really see the water droplets.

Motocross Shoot, Part I (racing)

I've been shooting a lot for the book I'm just finishing up and I thought I'd share a few shots from a shoot yesterday set up for me by my friend and neighbor, photographer +Kathy Porupski at a motocross track in Dade City Florida. We used natural light and an Elinchrom Quadra strobe with a 27" soft box (or just a reflector and grid) for some of the shots. Took some portraits too and will post those later. By the end, I was covered in dirt (click on the first thumbnail) but it was totally worth it. Two lens: either a 300mm f/2.8 or a 14-24mm f/2.8 (I think we used a 24-70mm once, too but not for long). What a blast! (click for larger views)

Albion Falls in mild mid-winter 2012 - #WaterfallWednesday curated by +Eric Leslie

After i finished some extra afternoon work in Hamilton last weekend, i thought i visit Albion falls quickly and see how it looks this time of the year, but because it's been mild lately and that afternoon was even warmer, there's obviously no ice or snow in sight but it has more water this time than the first time i saw it last summer. Still it is one of the prettiest waterfall i've ever seen in the city of waterfalls. It's definitely worth the trip for me! Hope you like it. #PlusPhotoExtract

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
