There were great long exposure clouds in the sky when I set out to find this place. What I hadn't counted on was that once I had "climbed" for two hours on skis, up to the top of the mountain, I was actually inside the clouds!

So... I'm posting a non-long exposure for a change :-)

Water is Life

I just returned from my late fathers hunt camp in northern Ontario. This is a place I grew up going to in all seasons throughout my life since I was born. Snowmobiling in winter, fishing in summer and autumn and many family vacations. This is why I have grown to love nature the way I do and I have my father to thank for that.

This particular stream which is tucked away in a gorge, has been a mainstay of one of the places I loved to explore as a young boy and I introduced my son Seamus to this very spot. On this day it was chilly, which anyone that knows me, knows I like cold weather... heck I'm Canadian!

Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park is an extremely popular spot for photographers. That's not surprising because it really is beautiful, plus it is very accessible - the road runs right along side it and there is plenty of parking.

If you search for images of this location though, you'll hardly see any winter scenes. This is presumably because the road is closed to normal vehicles during the winter, with the only access being on foot, via snowcoach, or snowmobile.

I took this photo when we passed by a couple of weeks ago on snowmobiles while en-route to Old Faithful. Sadly we weren't quite early enough to catch the morning sun on Mt Moran (the peak on the right), but there was still a little mist around at least.

sperm whales encounters week #1

I was dreaming about meeting sperm whales for many years. Combination of incredible intelligence and reputation of world's biggest predator these animals possess always fascinated me.

I finally got my chance in October 2010, when I joined +Tony Wu on his trip to the remote Ogasawara Archipelago in Japan. I usually get lucky closer to the end of the trip, but this time I got my best encounter on the very first day.

This image literally depicts my very first underwater sighting of the sperm whale. This is what I saw after entering water and this is how it all started ^_^

Inside Out

Another shot from More London. For a while I thought it was just me - but recently I read a blog post by +Tom McLaughlan - here: http://tommclaughlan.net/2012/02/05/returning/ about returning over and over to More London. Its a fantastic bit of public space with great buildings too, and like Tom I find myself coming back here over and over again - constantly finding different views, lines and angles. Not really sure why this office / public space attracts people as it does but its streets ahead of other similar developments in London like Fleet Place, Paddington Basin, Regents Place to name but a few, maybe its its location or maybe its just well designed.

This shot is pretty much the same as the last More London shot I posted (The Gap) just looking straight ahead instead of skywards.

Oh and PS - +Tom McLaughlan - thanks very much for the shout out in your post

Yes it's another Birthday for my other angel this time. After the joy Georgia had seeing her image online and the wonderful comments I couldn't let Laura down.

So here is a recent morning image, hair still in a mess but so cute. I'd just come home from shooting something to find Laura at the door to welcome me home. How could I resist creating this image, plus this one likes the camera, always willing to step in for a photo. She even doesn't mind B&W.

So Happy 8th Birthday Laura!

Early Morning Reflection
This was one of the many mornings here in Colorado with not a cloud in the sky. I was blessed though with barely a stitch of a breeze which made for a nice reflection of Mount Hope (13,933 ft), Twin Peaks (13,270 ft & 13,333 ft), and Rinker Peak (13,783 ft) in this small beaver pond on the edge of Twin Lakes in central Colorado. I was almost foiled by the resident beaver as he came out right after this and made a reflection shot impossible!

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
