Classic view of Elbow Falls

As stated in my previous post, I made a little visit to Elbow Falls over the weekend. This is a very popular spot. People are flocking to it even when the weather is bad/overcast (like Sunday).
Anyway. I had a great chat with another photographer about film vs digital after returning to this shot.

I measured the light and came to a 1/4sec. Way to short to what I wanted. Plus all the tones seemed to hover between -1 and +1. I slapped on the polarizer and the red filter and the scene came to life. I now was able to place the deep shadowed rocks on -2 (zone III), the water on the bottom fell in zone II (perfect cause I wanted it to look almost black). The rocks on the right where an even zone V and the snow/ice at the waterfall fell in zone VII. And the waterfall itself in zone VI. I knew this was going to be perfect. Glad it came out the way I envisioned it. O and exposure time increased to 8 seconds (with reciprocity failure).

Sunset over Old Faithful

I arrived in Old Faithful earlier today after a 4-hour ride on a snow coach from Mammoth Springs. Shortly after my arrival I headed out for a hike in search of a location to capture a view of the sunset.

This spot is known as the Overlook and is about a 3/4 mile hike uphill. Once I arrived, I setup my gear and waited for that special moment when the setting sun turns the clouds a pinkish/orangish color. Several minutes later, the colors were gone and I began my journey back to the lodge to thaw out.

PLEASE VIEW LARGE!!

This is a 135 second exposure, shot at Wreck Beach in Vancouver, British Columbia. On the horizon is the North Arm Breakwater.

I used a 10 stop ND filter, plus a 3 stop hard grad ND filter to get the effect I was after.

"Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown

I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity"
~A tribute to Whitney Houston, my favorite song of hers.

A "nearly" Wren in flight as part of my "Small Birds in Flight" project.

Sadly the harsh shadow has ruined this particular picture but I am proving to myself that it can be done. Given more time, more light, less shadows and buckets of patience I will get a decent picture of this bird in flight...

" L'Heure Bleue " by Matt Anderson

( les bleus heure rêves Caribbean - Twilight, The Blue Hour in the Caribbean). January 2012, Turks and Caicos coastline at dusk / twilight. Trade-winds & localized cloud cover creating wispy shapes and variegated colors throughout earths heavens. Lower coastal rocks and coral formations anchoring the elusive motioning; ever shifting sea.

Ricecakes!!!!!!!

For those of you looking o clear out any leftover ricecakes after today's #ChrystaRaeDay festivities, might I suggest tossing them in the general direction of this charming fellow (Who now makes me wanna sing "Le Poisson" from the Little mermaid)

Not sure if he'll eat them, but he can use them as insulation for the nests in his flock.

Well, I thought I would head to the coast, but I checked the weather right before heading out as always do, not going to be that great. I will wait a couple more days... I'm getting cabin fever.

So instead I will post a shot from my most recent trip to the coast.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
