Marina Bay Lights || Blame The Monkey 2.0

A big thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last year and half. From blamethemonkey.com to Google+, I’ve really felt the love from everyone and things have been growing rapidly. Thank you so much -- I sincerely appreciate it.

We don’t have a team of people working at Blame The Monkey. It’s just myself and my wife, Naomi Locardi . Everything you see is the result of a true love for photography and a passion to freely give away knowledge, experience, and information. I do this purely because I love it and she helps me purely because I’ve cleverly tricked her into loving me. (I find that subliminal messages work the best).

Over the next week, significant updates will be coming to blamethemonkey.com, starting with the re-design followed by new content and tutorials. -- (Not to worry, all the before and afters will stay in place). -- Hopefully we can prevent taking the site down in the process but if things start acting funny, you’ll know the reason. So, please bear with me over the next week as I enter my sleepless, caffeine driven - obsessive - get things freaking done mode. :) Hopefully we’ll come out with something wonderful when it’s all said and done.

This is all in preparation for a huge life change in March. In 2011, with a comical blend of insomnia and jet lag, I flew 220,000 miles to feed my passion for Travel and Destination Photography, almost always with a return ticket. But as of March, after we finish relinquishing all of our personal possessions, there will be no more round trips, no more going home, and no more looking back. The world will become our new home with 22 countries planned for this year alone.

I openly invite you to come share the world with us and learn how to create beautiful photography in the process.

Marina Bay Sands and The Helix Bridge

With only 2 days to explore Singapore last week, I hit the big areas first - and they don’t get much bigger than Marina Bay. And what could possibly make one of the most opulent places in the world more attractive? How about a laser light show? Now that’s cool!

Trust me - having only a few days in this amazing city was a complete tease but thankfully, I’ll be back there very soon. :)

From Wikipedia:

Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. Developed by Las Vegas Sands, it is billed as the world's most expensive standalone casino property at $8 billion, including cost of the prime land. With the casino complete, the resort features a 2,561-room hotel, a 1,300,000-square-foot (120,000 m2) convention-exhibition centre, the 800,000-square-foot (74,000 m2) The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, an iconic ArtScience museum, two large theatres, seven "celebrity chef" restaurants, two floating Crystal Pavilions, an ice skating rink, and the world's largest atrium casino with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines. The complex is topped by a 340m-long SkyPark with a capacity of 3,900 people and a 150m infinity swimming pool, set on top of the world's largest public cantilevered platform, which overhangs the north tower by 67m.

The Helix Bridge , previously known as the Double Helix Bridge , is a pedestrian bridge linking Marina Centre with Marina South in the Marina Bay area in Singapore. It was officially opened on 24 April 2010 at 9 pm, however only half was opened due to ongoing construction at the Marina Bay Sands.

Here is one of my very first experiments with long exposure photography (from July 2009). I think this was only my second or third outing with long exposures. I was using some very cheap Dolica ND filters (I stacked a 1 stop, a 2 stop and and a 3 stop). I really had no idea what I was doing at the time, but I remember being very eager to do it!!

I'm posting this image to wish all of you a Happy Valentine's Day. In addition to the heart shape in the far right rock, you might also note the fisherman on the left rock.

PS These are the seal rocks which can be seen from the Cliff House Restaurant and the ruins of the old Sutro Baths in San Francisco.

PPS Sorry that I have not been around as much to comment on all of your wonderful images! I am currently dealing with a variety of dealings.

Los Angeles, CA ~ Bunker Hill
I think I broke every rule on architectural photography in this one image but I don't care. I just dig the reflections. I'll have to print this one large, there's a tone of detail that nobody will ever see on a monitor.

Backcountry Ski Tour at the Heart of Winter: 5 photos, 1-by-1

As written yesterday, the backcountry ski tour to Mt. Chapf and Mt. Isisizer Rosswis together with +Daniel Arndt was very outstanding in terms of beautiful vistas and alpine sceneries. Thus I decided to present you 5 photos this week.

This photo was taken from the top of Mt. Isisizer Rosswis, 2'334m. It was windy, cold and sunny. Below, the Sarganserland lies under a blanket of high fog. We are about 800m /2624ft above the fir trees below. Luckily there was no snow cornice at the top, so we could take a step closer.

I made this photo with my old Nikkor 24mm f/2.8, which I carried along with my standard lens. To me, this lens produces an unusual crispness, quite good for that fog blanket. But changing the lens in -15°C / 5°F, being surrounded by a plethora of snow crystals speeding around, was quite challenging. I discussed that with my friend +Johan Peijnenburg a week ago.

Best viewed enlarged. So thanks for stopping by!

Long Necked Karen Tribe - A young tribal girl weaving cloth. No education, no way out.

I'm currently running a charity drive in conjunction with +The Giving Lens (by Colby Brown). Where all net proceed from the sale of prints from www.LightBandit.net would go to Empowerment International of Nicaragua's children education fund.

Kindly support & Happy Valentine's Day.

Sailing Silhouette
One of my favorite silhouettes I've ever captured. Wishing I was on one of those sailboats right about now. Makes me feel all warm and cozy inside... A nice virtual escape from this 36 degree weather here in Louisville.

Tokyo Expressway is different from Metropolitan Expressway. It runs only in the Ginza area and connected with Metropolitan Expressway, but it isn't a toll road.Tokyo Expressway rent spaces under their elevated lanes so they don't have to collect tolls.

She showed up after all.

And just in time for Valentine's Day! No matter where you are, I hope you enjoy the day with whomever you want to spend it with. And for those of you that have already finished the day, I hope you didn't eat too many sweets! ;-)

P A S S A G E

Sorry for the double post to all you Flickrites.

I have always had a fascination with steps and stairways. These caught my eye months ago, but I couldn't see how to capture the image I was after. After returning to the spot a few times, I finally got what I was after……….

Originally I tried the image without the 'life ring', but I felt the image needed something at the top of the steps to act as a focal point and keep the 'eye' in the image, so I decided to start again and keep it in.

Have a great Tuesday/Valentine's Day everyone. :-)

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
