9 awesome TOP photos published by Google+ photography enthusiasts on October 4.

I'm now back in London after six weeks of volunteer work on a game reserve in South Africa. I can't believe the time has flown by already.

The people, the places, the wildlife, everything was amazing and better than I could have hoped for. I got to learn a lot about the effort required to maintain a reserve like that - it's staggering! I have a new-found respect for those people who make it all happen, from the specialists who monitor the various animals' health and well being to the anti-poaching team who patrol the reserve 24/7 and really do put their lives at risk doing so.

Needless to say I took plenty of photos during my time there and I look forward to sharing some of them with you in the weeks ahead. I haven't caught up on processing them all yet but here's a cute one to get the ball rolling.

This lion cub was one of four and is about 2 to 3 months old. The mother had been hiding them in the bush but we were lucky enough to be the first to spot them once she decided to present them to the world.

Lions are classed as Vulnerable and their numbers have declined by 30–50% over the last two decades.

[in this stand]

in this stand of heavy limbs
a story is twisted into shape
into that tale you are fond of telling
yet it drifts to the ground as fallen leaves
for there lives a muse who knows the truth

The Puppet Master

Sticking with my "something yellow, something red" theme from yesterday, I spent 15 minutes in our yard tonight - scouting around in the dark with a torch -  looking for a suitably-immobile subject to play with this evening. As always with macro, viewing at full size shows some wonderful detail in these otherwise over-looked garden treasures.

"A September Remembrance"
Tomorrow morning I will be here once again for the second part of our annual photo photo meetup!

Regardless of what a lot of photographers say, there is a great deal of "luck" involved with getting a photo. I am not really sure if there is any greater luck than the weather itself. I only have control over my camera, things like fstop, exposure, shutter speeds, lenses, filters, deciding when to click the shutter. Often times I am presented with skies which are completely cloudless when I wanted clouds for instance and every once in awhile mother nature gives me something to where I am literally screaming at the sky in excitement.

Fog in Colorado is a very uncommon thing and for this, I just happened to pick the right place to have as a meeting point for the first day of our annual "Fall In Colorado Photo Meetup" this past Friday; the shores of Lake Estes in Estes Park. We were presented with a scene that was almost unworldly at times with the rising sun backlighting the fog and creating an almost surreal glow about it. I just wish we had weather like this a great deal more often! The title of the piece...it's breast cancer awareness month and the colors seemed to fit that quite well.
If you like it, feel free to share it!

The Burning Cloud

When I was at San Francisco's Airport, I read this quote on a wall:

"Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer"

I could not agree more.
I spent 10 days in California, and I think that it was one of the best idea I ever had.
I had not only the chance to see a world at 6 thousand miles from mine, but thanks to +Google+ I had the opportunity to meet in the real life some awesome guys that turned a simple trip in something that will last in my mind for the rest of my days.
So, thank you so much +Patrick Smith  +Jim Patterson +Barry Blanchard  +Paul Porter +Mike Spinak and +Nathan Wirth ! (+Ivan Makarov & +Joe Azure I'm sure that sooner or later we'll have another chance to meet!)

I'm sure that this is the beginning of a new way to plan my journeys.

This picture goes to my beautiful friend +Louisa Catharine Forsyth, wherever she is now in this beautiful planet :)

The Eye of Aermotor now turns to Pawnee, the last free kingdom of pronghorn.  ;-)))

Image Notes: 4 frames manually blended to increase dynamic range.  And in case I am too esoteric, Aermotor is the classic brand of prairie windmills such as this one!

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
