Don't come any closer

This bad boy was watching me stroll closer and closer and eventually his temper got the better of him. He started snorting, stamping and moving towards me, I meanwhile, was stood in the open and wondered why I had left the safety of the trees!  I backed away as quick as I could, I still wonder if he would have charged me down?

Moonrise Over the Inyo Mountains
The Inyo Mountains rise over the Southern end of the Owens Valley between Big Pine and Lone Pine.  There aren't many roads leading into the area, but you can catch the moon rising over them at sunset a day or two before the full moon.  I wrote a blog post back in 2006 on anticipating shots like this one:
Plan Ahead for Great Full Moon Rise and Set Shots!
http://activesole.blogspot.com/2006/11/plan-ahead-for-great-full-moon-rise-and.html

That planning got even easier with the creation of apps like +The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE), as I describe in this 2011 update:
Put Sunset Full Moon Rise Dates on your 2011 Calendar
http://activesole.blogspot.com/2010/12/put-sunset-full-moon-rise-dates-on-your.html

TPE is free for Windows PCs and Macs, $9.99 for smart phones.  Check the pre-full moon rise dates and times in your area, and pick a nice spot to catch the next ones coming up!

"Drops Of Gold II"
Photo thoughts--- Last week during our annual "Fall On Colorado" photo meetup, I had the chance to do some macro/close up work  on a morning that was heavily frost laden. It was beautiful to listen to the frost melting and dropping water from the Aspen trees which surrounded us. While exploring the area I happened upon this Aspen leaf sitting on a rock that had some excellent drops on it and I just had to have it! It was beautiful....the texture, colors, light...I couldn't resist.

Loving You Monday Morning...
It's always nice to see a wee smile to start off your day... ;-)

Whilst processing in Lightroom 4, I used the +Skyline Media Fuji Neopan Film preset to achieve this look. ;-)

I absolutely love roaming around the sand dunes in Lancelin. I find sand dunes to be a great subject to photograph as they always present varying lines and contrasts. I was pretty happy with this composition at the time of shooting but it did take some patience to process the image exactly how I wanted. I hope you enjoy.

Emmental golden fog

Another photo from my Emmental series, shot early in the morning in Emmental, Switzerland, during my holidays there.

This was an incredible morning, all foggy, with rays of sun penetrating the clouds and giving warm, golden tones to whatever they touched, contrasting to the cold, blue-ish morning tones of the surroundings.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
