Good Morning G+ World! A new week begins! Here is my share today for #monochromemonday curated by +Siddharth Pandit . This is Morgan! She posed for a group shoot event earlier last year! The color rendition of this shot, though beautiful, lacked an emotional quality. A completely different aura of emotion emerged when I converted this shot to B&W. Have an awesome day G+ Family! Make this day a magical day!

Back on track

Wow after a week of cat sitting for friends (I'm not kidding you) I'm finally able to process some shots again.
Living in a – for me – unexplored part of the city for a week sure was interesting. I thought I would go out every night and roam the range roads around my friends' house. Well, I found out that the area there, is not quite interesting enough for what I do. You have to drive a long way to get away from civilisation.
So on Sunday I hatched a plan. I was going to go out and go south. As far as a could go. Hoping to bring something home. I did not find much. It felt like I wasted just a lot of gas.

But then I turned around and saw the gorgeous light on the mountains to my West. I raced back to a viewpoint I wanted to shoot at for the longest time. Well it's not actually a VIEWPOINT. It's just a point on a highway where you have a gorgeous view of the Rockies. I can only say, it was amazing. I shot about 15 frames on the good old RB67 using 50 asa Pan f plus with a red filter and polarizer but THIS is a digital version of what I saw. Looking forward to develop this film and see how I did and how the red filter changed the scene....

In the middle you see Mount Bryant Mount Glasgow located in the Fisher Range on the edge of Kananaskis in Alberta, Canada. Taken West of Calgary on highway 22X.

My contribution for +Michael Russell #mountainmonday and +Siddharth Pandit's #monochromemonday

I was going to use a 2:1 format for this image. A square crop cut out the cloud on the right which i wanted to keep in. Then i saw the superb jetty image in 5:4 format by +rohan reilly which inspired me to try it here. It solves my problem of keeping the clouds on the right, but there's something about the format i'm liking and can't fully articulate. To me the image has room to breath if that makes sense.

If you ordered a copy of my Stormchasing Arizona (http://www.mikeolbinski.com/book) book, or happened to see my Best of 2011 (http://www.mikeolbinski.com/2011/12/a-few-frames-from-2011/), you may have seen this image already.

But it was one of my top five probably from last year's monsoon season, so I felt like it was owed it's own blog/G+ post.

This is from north of Tucson overlooking a huge cotton field. Awesome storm on the horizon dropping rain. Nothing I like more than a wide vista or landscape with a distant rain storm.

There was also a timelapse to go with this: http://www.mikeolbinski.com/2011/09/thunderstorms-over-the-catalina-mountains/

Cannot wait for monsoon season to return, it's been so dry and sunny here!

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
