I have always believed that Niagara Falls was one of the 7 wonders of the world, but I was wrong. I was reading about this, and it is commonly mistaken for one but actually isn't. It is in my world though.;-) If you're curious, in 1997, CNN listed the 7 Natural Wonders of the World as:
Grand Canyon
The Great Barrier Reef
The Harbor at Rio de Janeiro
Mt. Everest
Northern Lights
Paricutin Volcano
Victoria Falls
Then on 7/07/07 a new list, based on voting from around the world, named seven more:
Chichen Itza, Mexico - Mayan City
Christ Redeemer, Brazil - Large Statue
The Great Wall, China
Machu Picchu, Peru
Petra, Jordan - Ancient City
The Roman Colosseum, Italy
The Taj Mahal, India
(You're knockin' em off, +Kalebra Kelby - I'm impressed!:))

We can't all photograph these wonders. But we can find our own. I hope 2012 will be a year in which you are inspired by things both massive and extremely tiny and I will do whatever I can to remember to seek that inspiration myself and share it with you. This was a great start, in this first month of January 2012.
I was really determined to capture a shot that would show you the scale of this beautiful natural wonder in front of me. Do you see the two men at the center bottom of the frame? And look at the light post and the viewing telescope. Are you struggling with inspiration in your photographic vision? Put yourself in front of something that makes you feel one of two things...very small, or very big. If you can do both in the same week, so much the better. We live in a beautiful, wonderful world and as photographers, we have the unique opportunity, not only to experience it a little more intensely than the average person, but to share it in a way that allows others to experience it too. Whether in the colors and faces and warmth of India, the varied 7 Wonders of the World or the mighty, ferocious, icy cold and the beautiful and natural grandeur of this massive Canadian waterfall... I embrace that with everything in me. I hope you will too.

A void

The battle-scarred sentinel stands his ground. Alert and poised for attack, "You shall not pass..." is his clear message to the intruder.

The second of two contributions for #MacroMonday, curated by +Kerry Murphy, +Jennifer Eden and +Kelli Seeger Kim. The intention here was to create something with a different feel to my previous illustrative version. I wonder which - if either - people prefer?

Built in the 1930's, Bixby Creek Bridge is probably the most photographed landmark on pacific coast highway 1. The road spans over 700 feet and rests on an arch nearly 300 feet high that was built as a single reinforced concerete structure; which makes this bridge one of the longest of its kind!

Good read at http://www.pelicannetwork.net/bigsur.bixby.bridge.htm if you want to know more on the history behind it.

Technical Details:
Canon 7D
Canon 17-40L @ 17

Snowflake-a-Day #47:
#MacroMonday curated by +Kelli Seeger Kim, +Kerry Murphy and +Jennifer Eden
and why not throw it to #MonochromeMonday too! Curated by +Siddharth Pandit.
A big thank-you to all of the new folks that added me to their circles! I spent a few hours today putting this image together - a very elaborate and bright flake from the most recent snowfall. Enjoy!

Here is my contribution to #MountainMonday

Up in Yosemite's high country, Tenaya Lake was frozen over with many interesting fractures, rocks breaking the surface, and this ice formation (probably from a rock just below the surface).

I wasn't thrilled with my sunset images (one of which I posted here). I felt I had exposure problems (which in the end were easily editable). But I felt I needed some "Tenaya Lake Redemption".

So +kendra karr and I headed out at 5am to arrive just after 6am for the sunrise. After the light show, we headed back into the valley to join +Robert Scoble and his family for breakfast at the Ahwahnee. Thanks Robert for letting us sneak in under your reservation!

Time goes slowly when you're only waiting...

::La Vallèe from Punta Helbronner (3462mt):: Valle d'Aosta, Italy

This image was taken in a very cold morning of October 2009.
The air was crisp and dawn was truly spectacular! From Punta Helbronner, at 3462mt, you can see the entire Central Valley of the aosta Valley, here I used my Canon 40 d with the 70-200 2.8.
I hope can pleasure to you and let you try the same feelings that I've tried!

Especially for #MountainMonday curated by +Michael Russell ,

"An oldie but a goodie:" Moonset at dawn over the Teton Range and Snake River, Grand Teton Nat'l. Pk., Wyoming

Only a couple moments of free time, just enough to start off a new G+ album, and contribute to +Michael Russell's #MountainMonday

You can tell it's an older shot, 'cuz the foreground trees now block more of the view from the river. Shot with an n90s on Fuji Velvia film.

Here is the companion photo that goes along with my Essence gallery post earlier today (https://plus.google.com/111986746929163950657/posts/UAnbxz93dyA) -- taken from the other side of the rocks.

Misty Grove

Post-Processing: Among other post production processes, in Ps I used an B/W adjustment layer to make the leaves pop and add the tone. Also, there's a second b/w adjustment layer set to low opacity (8% I think it was), with blending mode set to Overlay. I don't do much monochrome toning, but I count this as one of my best.

Story time: While driving past this grove of trees for the 1000th time, I saw the fog, had my camera, and the rest is history.

Location: Upland, Indiana

Interesting sidenote: there are hideous pink barn houses and grain silos in the background completely hidden by the fog.

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
