Mmmmm... I love old houses out in the kountry.

This is one I believe is much less visited. Inside are still intact items from a long time ago. It is very fun to explore these houses and see what history you can gather from them. Sometimes they even have old farm equipment.

Enjoy!

Hippo Splash

This image has a bit of history. It was one of the first pictures I took with a digital camera and it was featured as one of the best wildlife photos by DP magazine (Ukrainian edition 2007). That said - I could never get the photo edited acceptable (early days in PS :))). I tried it again a few weeks later - and out of pure frustration deleted the raw file and colour jpeg's - big mistake and I am sooooooo sorry about that silly habit :)

All I have left is this B&W version - NEVER delete difficult images as soon you will acquire more skills to deal with problems :)

I would also like to apologise for my post-and-run manners (I am busy with final TAX returns :))

Do you think you are improving as a photographer?

The sun was shining yesterday in Ireland and although it's only the 13th of January it feels like Spring is right around the corner. Wonderful.

This is a long exposure photo from yesterday..see.. the sun..!

How far we've come in the last 25 years...

This phone was my Grandmothers phone for maybe 40 years until British Telecom came along to replace it with some horrible cheap plastic thing in the early 90's, we had to persuade the engineer to leave this old one with us. It now sits on a shelf in my office looking decorative gathering dust.
Whilst this was disconnected 20 odd years ago, and was old at the time, the progress we've made in communications since then is mind blowing!
iPhones that do everything under the sun, video conversations all over the world with 10 people (hangouts), phone numbers that are far too long to remember anymore and so on. Back with this phone was the days where there was a direct line to the exchange, the operator connected your calls and your phone number was 3 digits.
...and they call what we have now progress. In some ways yes, though sometimes I do wish we were back in the days of letter writing and not everything had to be answered immediately.

I'll be raising a glass to simpler times tonight (whilst having a hangout of course!) ;-)

POTD 12 Jan 2012 : Chipmunk looking for food (12/366)

Chipmunk, Jandia, Fuerteventura, Spain

Visiting Jandia today we had nearly 5hrs to explore. Near the town's light house is where a colony of Chipmunks live. Had a lot of fun photographing these follows as they hunted for food. There are really quite tame coming right up to you... and then running off very quickly before you have the chance to photograph them.

I was quite taken with this image of one of them sitting on the rocks where the live and forage for food looking longingly at the tourists sitting outside the nearby beach cafe. I'm not sure how he or she regards them. Invaders or a source of a free lunch?

More images of the chipmunks and of Jandia can be seen here: http://photos.imb.biz/travel/canary/fuerteventura/jandia

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
