"The Vaillancourt Fountain at Justin Herman Plaza and Four Embarcadero Center has been widely reviled since it was built in 1971 by French-Canadian sculptor Francois Vaillancourt. The late Herb Caen said it looked like a pile of poop while others are content to call it a mere eyesore. So harsh was public criticism that its embittered creator was ridiculed out of town. Built on land cleared for the Embarcadero Freeway and BART, the fountain is built on the site of former hotels and bars in an area once well populated by seamen. When it's working, the fountain releases thousands of gallons from its aperture ... large square stepping stones allow a walk through the cluster of cubic plumbing, enveloping the visitor in its roaring presence."

I can't for the life of me remember the name of this aircraft carrier in San Diego.. Lincoln or Ike maybe...Anyway, it's an old HDR image I took a few months ago. Pretty clean for an HDR I think.

Dance of Light and Fog - Yosemite Valley

As I watched the fog layer move towards me trying to engulf the entire valley, a beam of light, as if almost from the heavens, decided to fight back and swept across the valley floor.

The contrasting elements in the nature are always so much fun to photograph! A thick layer of fog was advancing from the east slowly covering major landmarks in the valley such as Half Dome, which can be seen from this vista point on a clear day. On the west there were patchy clouds in the sky with pockets of opening. The fog was just just behind the Bridalveil falls when one such opening in the clouds shot a beam of penetrating light down to the valley floor. It swept across the valley floor slowly and finally illuminated the falls....

Anne's Beach - The best little beach in Florida - I've photographed this beach many times, but only at sunrise or sunset. I happened to be passing by a few hours before sunset, the clouds weren't bad so I stopped to have a look... I noticed how the waves were creating a nice leading line. Every other time I've been here the tree is either submerged (high tide) or the water is several meters from the roots (low tide). I think the gentle lapping waves make this shot. They normally couldn't be captured as well in lower light conditions, so I decided to take this shot... I'm glad I did!

Rotterdam Impressions I

A bit different from my usual architectural photography. This time I wanted to have a more impressionistic view on it. Whenever I approach Rotterdam by car then the white buildings always catch my eye and I forget about the rest of the environment.
Shot taken from this bridge and I recommend highly to view it on a calibrated screen: https://plus.google.com/107742567767125793693/posts/1Sn7tNDqdtB #BWFineArtLE

What is Plus Extract?

It's your DAILY dose of TOP Google Plus photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. This means that the DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP. We use Google+ API for the automatic steps; Jarek Klimek is responsible for curation and communication with the authors.

We strongly respect the authors and their rights. +Jarek Klimek contacts every photographer featured in all DAILY TOPs and if any author decides that he/she doesn't want to be featured in the TOP, we respect this absolutely.

Catherine Hall About us and Google+

Google+ has flourished into a bustling online community for photographers – and one reason is the exceptional contribution of early adopters such as Jarek Klimek, Editor of PhotoExtract magazine.

Jarek had the foresight to research the new social network and created an authoritative list of photographers to follow on Google+.

His viral list has not only become one of the top referring resources of photography trailblazers, it is also shared and watched by leaders such as Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble and Darren Rowse.

Jarek has helped introduce the work of great photographers to Google+ photography enthusiasts and I was very excited to share his insights with viewers on TWiT Photo.
