37 Days in Norway
Remembering the journey in May/June 2017 ...
Day 10 (2017-06-03)

On today's photo you see the view that we had when we stepped out of the car in the morning.
We continued our trip along the coast, with halts in Tvedestrand (with a lot of book-shops) and Arendal (where the second-largest wooden building in Norway has been built). On the island Hisøy we took photos of the lighthouse Sandvigodden fyr. We also stopped in the towns Grimstad and Lillesand. A few kilometers onwards we found a place to stay for the night close to the village Høvåg.
Kilometer reading: 2531 km.

37 Days in Norway
Remembering the journey in May/June 2017 ...
Day 17 (2017-06-10)

We stood up early at 5 o'clock and drove to the large parking lot at the Preikestolen fjellstue lodge where the trail to the Preikestolen starts. After breakfast we began the walking-tour at 7:45, still in dense fog, but the weather got better soon. As we stopped frequently to take photos, we needed 3 hours to reach the famous Preikestolen plateau, 600 m above the Lysefjord.
At 16:00 we left the Preikestolen fjellstue and returned to the Lysefjord bridge. After exploring this region (the town Forsand and parts of the northern shore of the Høgsfjord and - finally without rain or mist - the southern shore of the Lysefjord) we continued our trip in northwards direction, having a break in the town Jørpeland and crossing the Jøsenfjord on a ferry. This way is a part of the 260 km long National Tourist Route Ryfylke.
Kilometer reading: 3543 km.

37 Days in Norway
Remembering the journey in May/June 2017 ...
Day 13 (2017-06-06)

It was a rainy night but the rain stopped in the morning. We drove to Tonstad and then on another route back to Flekkefjord, seeing several waterfalls and sheep on the way, but very few cars.
Following the Nordsjøvegen again, we came to the Jøssingfjord where under the overhanging rock Helleren two little wooden houses have been built in the 1800s (see photo).
In Sokndal we walked to the Ruggesteinen, a 74 tons weighing boulder which is Northern Europe’s largest rocking stone.
West of Egersund we crossed a bridge to the island Eigerøya. From the parking lot you have to walk approximately 2 kilometers to the lighthouse Eigerøy fyr on the island Midbrødøya. Unfortunately the lighthouse was hidden behind a scaffold because of renovation work.
After sightseeing in Egersund we found a place for the night a few kilometers north of the town.
Kilometer reading: 3051 km.

37 Days in Norway
Remembering the journey in May/June 2017 ...
Day 11 (2017-06-04)

From Høvåg we drove a few kilometers back in the direction of Lillesand in order to visit the small village Brekkestø on the island Justøy.
At noon we arrived in Kristiansand which is the fifth-largest city in Norway. We took a walk to the city center Kvadraturen and to the fortress Christiansholm. On the small island Odderøya, which lies immediately to the south of the city center, we saw the lighthouse Odderøya fyr.
Next we made a detour to the island Flekkerøya which can be reached through a tunnel beneath the sea.
From now on and in the next days we mostly followed the Nordsjøvegen, a scenic route leading from Kristiansand to Haugesund.
In Mandal, the southernmost town in Norway, we walked to the Mandal kirke (which is the largest wooden church in Norway) and to a small lighthouse on the 800 m long beach Sjøsanden.
At 21:15 we came to the beautiful lighthouse Lindesnes fyr (on the photo) where we spent the night.
Kilometer reading: 2703 km.

37 Days in Norway
Remembering the journey in May/June 2017 ...
Day 14 (2017-06-07)

Driving northwards, we came to the Nasjonale Turistveger Jaeren, a 41 km long scenic route that runs from Ogna to Bore. We stopped at the lighthouse Kvassheim fyr and at the old cemetery of Varhaug (on the photo). Then we searched the Varhaug church which was difficult to find beause it is located outside of the village.
After shopping in Bryne and filling the water tank of our camper-van we drove a few km back south to the Obrestad lighthouse. As it started to rain heavily, we decided to stay there for the rest of the day and the night.
Kilometer reading: 3124 km.

How do the PERSONAL TOPs of G+ Photos Work?

1) Any photography enthusiast can create a PERSONAL TOP consisting of his/her own Google Plus photographs. This means any existing PERSONAL top has been created by the author of the photographs that are in the TOP; there are no PERSONAL TOPs that were created automatically.

2) Only G+ photographs published by you in one of your Google+ posts should appear in your PERSONAL TOP. This means any posts you have reshared or your own posts without a G+ photo should not appear. No GIFs should be in the TOPs.

3) Contrary to the DAILY TOPs are the PERSONAL TOPs sorted solely on popularity - we use Plus PopRank to sort these. The Plus PopRank formula is: Plus PopRank(of a post) = +1s + (2 x comments) + (4 x reshares)

Example: Let's say that a particular post has 25 +1s, 10 comments and 3 reshares. This means its Plus PopRank is 57 (= 25 + 2x10 + 4*3).

The Google+ TOPs on PhotoExtract

You can find two kinds of Google Plus TOPs on PhotoExtract.com:

1) Plus Extract TOPs - DAILY sets of TOP G+ photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. These DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP.

2) PERSONAL TOPs, which contain Google+ photos published by photographer who created a TOP. These photographs are sorted solely by their G+ popularity measured by our Plus PopRank.
