There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough to pay attention to the story ~Linda Hogan

In recognition of St. Patrick's Day... a special image to brighten your day

May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
brightened by a song in your heart,
and warmed by the smiles
of the people you love.
~Irish Blessing

The North American porcupine is the only species that lives in the U.S. and Canada, and is the largest of all porcupines. A single animal may have 30,000 or more quills. North American porcupines eat natural bark and stems, as well as fruit, leaves, and springtime buds.
This animal has been raised in captivity.

Early morning on a river on the way to the west coast of Vancouver Island. The road to Tofino and Ucluelet is narrow and winding, and I have often wanted to stop at this location and get some images of the reflections of the early morning light on the pools in the rocks. This morning the light was just enough to make the moment magic.

Rufous Hummingbird
Rufous Hummingbirds are wide-ranging, and breed farther north than any other hummingbird. They are feisty, defending their territory and tirelessly chase away other hummingbirds, even in places they’re only visiting on migration. Like other hummers, they eat insects as well as nectar, taking them from spider webs or catching them in midair.

Flamingo feathers obtain their pink color from carotenoid pigments in the organisms they eat. Young flamingoes are grey in color and become brightly pigmented as the carotenoid pigments dissolve in fats and are deposited in the growing feathers, becoming orange or pink.

When two friends understand each other totally, the words are soft and strong like an orchid's perfume ~author unknown

The orchid is one of my favorite flowers because of its beauty and longevity. When all the other flowers wither on the stem after a week, the orchid keeps on blooming. Do you have a favorite flower?

I have never seen a river that I could not love. Moving water…has a fascinating vitality. It has power and grace and associations. It has a thousand colors and a thousand shapes, yet it follows laws so definite that the tiniest streamlet is an exact replica of a great river~ Roderick Haig-Brown

...You were like the humming bird to me...
And I am rather inclined to feel that you and I know the best part of one another without spending much time together
It is not that I fear the knowing
It is that I am at this moment willing to let you be what you are to me -- it is beautiful and pure and very intensely alive.”

How do the PERSONAL TOPs of G+ Photos Work?

1) Any photography enthusiast can create a PERSONAL TOP consisting of his/her own Google Plus photographs. This means any existing PERSONAL top has been created by the author of the photographs that are in the TOP; there are no PERSONAL TOPs that were created automatically.

2) Only G+ photographs published by you in one of your Google+ posts should appear in your PERSONAL TOP. This means any posts you have reshared or your own posts without a G+ photo should not appear. No GIFs should be in the TOPs.

3) Contrary to the DAILY TOPs are the PERSONAL TOPs sorted solely on popularity - we use Plus PopRank to sort these. The Plus PopRank formula is: Plus PopRank(of a post) = +1s + (2 x comments) + (4 x reshares)

Example: Let's say that a particular post has 25 +1s, 10 comments and 3 reshares. This means its Plus PopRank is 57 (= 25 + 2x10 + 4*3).

2) PERSONAL TOPs, which contain Google+ photos published by photographer who created a TOP. These photographs are sorted solely by their G+ popularity measured by our Plus PopRank.
