Hummingbird Tongue

I guess this female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird was offering her own unique, critique of my photo skills. I took this through a window at my home. - #WindowWednesday - +Simon Kitcher, +Jules Hunter - #WhateverWednesday - +Cicely Robin Laing - #WildlifeWednesday - +Mike Spinak.

The number of people who have me in a circle pushed above 5,000 today. I am blessed! Welcome new friends. I hope I can be a blessing to you. Feel free to say, "Hey," anytime.

To celebrate this personal milestone, I thought I'd re-share one of my favorite photos. I first shared it when I was in less than 500 circles...so it should be "new" to most.

Gold Rush

The brilliant, golden sunlight plunges through a narrow breach in the clouds and easily overpowers the lighthouse at Kewaunee, WI. - on the western shores of Lake Michigan.

I applied a "vintage photo" effect to one of my favorite images - originally in color. I used the free program FotoSketcher. Didn't fiddle with the settings...just let it do its thing. This is the result. What do you think? (You can compare with the original - it's at the top of my profile page.)

Crimson Tide

The reflection off the rough harbor was exquisite. This is one that gets better when viewed as large as your monitor will allow. The pre-sunrise view last Sunday at Algoma, WI. #PlusPhotoExtract

The Stand Off

A lot of people look at this photo and see the orange soldier beetle on top, but miss the yellow spider waiting to pounce on it's prey.

While photographing this, I saw the obvious potential for something dramatic and switched to video. If you'd like to see what happened, visit this post on my photo blog: http://popsdigital.com/?p=947

This is a two-fer - - one for #FloralFriday curated by +Tamara Pruessner and one for #FrighteningFriday curated by +Alexis Coram (though, I'm not sure if this is the week for Frightening Friday).

Too Wonderful for Me

There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I cannot resist photographing. The rise of a morning sun, the set of an evening sun, majestic sunbeams piercing the darkness and the form of a rainbow in the sky. (Pops Digital paraphrase of Proverbs 30:18.)

I captured this image of the Algoma, WI harbor, on the western shore of Lake Michigan, while on my way to prepare for a Sunday morning service at the church where I serve as pastor. #MonochromeMonday, +Siddharth Pandit - #MoodyMonday, +Philip Daly - #PlusPhotoExtract

How do the PERSONAL TOPs of G+ Photos Work?

1) Any photography enthusiast can create a PERSONAL TOP consisting of his/her own Google Plus photographs. This means any existing PERSONAL top has been created by the author of the photographs that are in the TOP; there are no PERSONAL TOPs that were created automatically.

2) Only G+ photographs published by you in one of your Google+ posts should appear in your PERSONAL TOP. This means any posts you have reshared or your own posts without a G+ photo should not appear. No GIFs should be in the TOPs.

3) Contrary to the DAILY TOPs are the PERSONAL TOPs sorted solely on popularity - we use Plus PopRank to sort these. The Plus PopRank formula is: Plus PopRank(of a post) = +1s + (2 x comments) + (4 x reshares)

Example: Let's say that a particular post has 25 +1s, 10 comments and 3 reshares. This means its Plus PopRank is 57 (= 25 + 2x10 + 4*3).
