Rest and take in the View...

Bench at Surprise View, Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, UK...

If you drive along the A6187 from Sheffield towards Hathersage you will pass the Fox House Inn, Longshaw and Lawrence Field probably without really noticing unless you are looking for them. Then as a sharp right hand bend appears through a small gap in the rocks a view across the Hope Valley opens out majestically in front of you known as Surprise View.

If you are driving, be very sure to concentrate on the road which now drops gently below Millstone Edge and towards Hathersage.

From the corner a wonderful vista opens up that takes in the Derwent Valley, the Hope Valley from Hathersage to Hope and Castleton, the Great Ridge (Lose Hill to Mam Tor), Win Hill and Kinder.

It's a view that cannot possibly be taken in when driving along and, like the Lake District version, is easily accessible on foot from a large car park provided a few hundred metres away back along the A6187.

Re-sharing this because it is my submission to the Best of 2011 - G+ Photography Book A charity book project co-ordinated by +Ivan Makarov...

I chose this image because I like the fluidity of the water movement as it flows over the rocks with the water taking on a peaty colour as it flows downstream...

We visited this area in the summer when there was barely a trickle, this time though it was fairly noisy with the amount of flow... Amazing what a few days rain can do...

How do the PERSONAL TOPs of G+ Photos Work?

1) Any photography enthusiast can create a PERSONAL TOP consisting of his/her own Google Plus photographs. This means any existing PERSONAL top has been created by the author of the photographs that are in the TOP; there are no PERSONAL TOPs that were created automatically.

2) Only G+ photographs published by you in one of your Google+ posts should appear in your PERSONAL TOP. This means any posts you have reshared or your own posts without a G+ photo should not appear. No GIFs should be in the TOPs.

3) Contrary to the DAILY TOPs are the PERSONAL TOPs sorted solely on popularity - we use Plus PopRank to sort these. The Plus PopRank formula is: Plus PopRank(of a post) = +1s + (2 x comments) + (4 x reshares)

Example: Let's say that a particular post has 25 +1s, 10 comments and 3 reshares. This means its Plus PopRank is 57 (= 25 + 2x10 + 4*3).
