Nash Point
Lee Big Stopper F8 @ 30 seconds.
Nash Point, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.

From yesterdays trip with +Ben Locke +Mark Ward & +julian provis.

The afternoon didn't start well, as once in the car, I realised my wellies were still in their bag in my front porch.

I took very few shots, and to be honest I very nearly didn't taken my camera out of its bag due to the appalling conditions - big waves, big swell, loads of spray and an incoming tide, along with a grey cloudless sky with no light. The other guys seemed pretty busy, so I thought I had better get some shots.
This was my second attempt at a composition, the first ending with very wet feet upto my knees, being caught out by a large wave (which also caught out +julian provis a little further along the shoreline). I wiped everything down and got the camera as dry as I could and moved further along to try find another composition.
I settled on this, which to be honest isn't the best, but I thought the swell at this location was ok - after 1 shot however the whole camera, lens & filter setup was completely covered in blobs of sea foam and spray.
After realising that long exposures in these conditions were a bit hit and miss, I put away the Big Stopper and plugged in the 0.6 Proglass ND. +Ben Locke's bag took a dunking (fair play Ben you kept the shutter open although your bag was merrily floating off - check out his post), so I went over and took his tripod with attached camera (once he had finished his long exposure and got the shot...) off him so he could attend to his very wet camera bag & kit. I started walking over to a spot where I could place both tripods (with attached cameras) on a level surface and on the way I knocked my tripod leg on a protuding rock....and in slow motion my lovely 0.6 Proglass ND lost it's grip on it's filter holder.....I moved my foot and actually managed to stop the glass filter hitting the rock...phew.
Unfortunately it just bounced straight off my (wet) trainer and smashed itself in 2 on the rock about 8 inches away.....!
Aaarrrggghhh :-)

So have a look at the other guys posts as this is it from yesterday :-)

Oh yea - also make sure you are aware of the incoming tide and don't have to climb down a rock face to reach safety.

A second shot of this particular fall, taken from the other side of the pool than the first.

Ledge
Lee Big Stopper F22 @ 330 seconds.
River Severn, Awre, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England.
#LongExposureThursday
#ThirstyThursdayPics

The River Severn (Welsh: Afon Hafren, Latin: Sabrina) is the longest river in Great Britain, at about 220 miles.
The river's estuary, which empties into the Bristol Channel, has the second largest tidal range in the world at 14.5 metres (48 ft), exceeded only by the Bay of Fundy. The muddy nature of the Severn Estuary is due to the high suspended sediment load which is maintained by strong currents.
This rock ledge has been under about 4-5 foot of mud for the last 12-15 months so I was thrilled to be able to access the area again on Sunday night along with +Ben Locke (thanks +julian provis for the tip off). After the challenging conditions of Nash Point the day before it was a nice easy stress free shoot.
Hopefully more to come from this area as it is one of my favourite local spots.

They're Behind You
Cefn Sidan Beach, Pembrey Country Park, Carmathenshire, Wales.

Watching the lifegaurds on Cefn Sidan beach. She was much more interested in them, and getting to the water than she was posing for me!

The 8 miles of sandy beach is fringed by dunes and has magnificent views of the Gower coastline and is part of the 202 Hectare Pembrey Country Park.

The Park was once the site of a Royal Ordnance Factory producing munitions for Allied Forces during the Second World War. At its peak in 1942 the Factory covered 500 acres and employed a workforce of 3000. The Factory ceased production in 1965. Llanelli Borough Council purchased the site in 1977 and initiated a vast programme of land reclamation. By 1984 the Park had been transformed into a major attraction providing a unique blend of coast and countryside.

First Big Climb
Mynydd Pen-y-fal, Monmouthshire, Wales.
#MonochromeMonday
#MoodyMonday

Sugarloaf at 596m/1955ft is the most southern and lowest of the summit peaks of the Black Mountains.
This shot is one from the archives, taken back in the summer of 2010, and shows our 8 year old son (sitting by the trig point) after his first big climb. He was really chuffed to reach the top and we were lucky not to get wet as the dark clouds threatened all day.
Amazing how time flies isn't it.....he turned 10 a few weeks ago.
Pen y Fan next on his list.

Uploaded towards a couple of monday daily themes - #MonochromeMonday curated by +Siddharth Pandit & #MoodyMonday curated by +Philip Daly.

Thanks to all who have recently added me to their circles, and to all the +1's and comments, they are all appreciated.

#LongExposureThursday
#ThirstyThursdayPics

A shot taken in the summer whilst visiting my parents in Cornwall. I was really after a shot of the rock stacks but there were way too many people milling around on the beach as it was low tide.....maybe next year!
Sorry I have been really busy the last week or so - I will catch up with you all soon.

How do the PERSONAL TOPs of G+ Photos Work?

1) Any photography enthusiast can create a PERSONAL TOP consisting of his/her own Google Plus photographs. This means any existing PERSONAL top has been created by the author of the photographs that are in the TOP; there are no PERSONAL TOPs that were created automatically.

2) Only G+ photographs published by you in one of your Google+ posts should appear in your PERSONAL TOP. This means any posts you have reshared or your own posts without a G+ photo should not appear. No GIFs should be in the TOPs.

3) Contrary to the DAILY TOPs are the PERSONAL TOPs sorted solely on popularity - we use Plus PopRank to sort these. The Plus PopRank formula is: Plus PopRank(of a post) = +1s + (2 x comments) + (4 x reshares)

Example: Let's say that a particular post has 25 +1s, 10 comments and 3 reshares. This means its Plus PopRank is 57 (= 25 + 2x10 + 4*3).

The Google+ TOPs on PhotoExtract

You can find two kinds of Google Plus TOPs on PhotoExtract.com:

1) Plus Extract TOPs - DAILY sets of TOP G+ photographs, which were chosen by an algorithm that combines automatic steps and manual curation. These DAILY TOPs are NOT based solely on popularity, and users with a small number of followers have a chance to be featured in the TOP.
